Introducing the "Big Package" players
. . . Funk, Funk and more Funk!

A Delaware native Don is the
consummate trombone player in the style of James Pankow (Chicago). A musically
degreed player with well over 20 years of experience playing in such bands as
Charlie Spivak, Warren Covington, Guy Lombardo, Bob Crosby, Sammy Kaye, Jimmy
Dorsey, and Nelson Riddle, plus thelocal bands Boys' Night Out, U-Funk and The
Remedy Band. A full-time network engineer, Don plays like many of us do for the
love of music, a lot of fun, and the chance to work with the very best
musicians in the tri-state area. He also serves on the Executive Board of the
AFM (American Federation of Musicians) Local 21.

Steve is
a life-long student of music. Well known as 'Big Daddy Rabbit' to the Chester
County, PA area, his raw power and strong stage presence continue to amaze
audiences time and time again. Steve's 35 plus year singing career has included
stints with many local bands and several performances in Jamaca. He has also
been the guest singer for the National Black Pilots Association and for the
International Steel Workers Convention at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New
Jersey. In 2003, Steve got the itch to be part of 'something special'. Shortly
thereafter, he joined Big Package. Not enough can be said about Steve. You just
have to see his show to believe it!

Mark has a BA in Music from the University of Delaware; and has been
playing professionally since 1972. While in high school, his band Crossroads
entered an earth day song writing contest. They took 2nd place. The band
expected a cash prize. What was awarded by the honorable governor of Delaware
himself was one copy of a book. It was called 'Birds In Our Lives'. As the band
exited the ceremony, the sax player, not being able to resist, yelled "There's
only one bird in my life!" as he 'shot the bird' in the direction of...well....
the governor himself. Thanks to the band ride, a wildly powerful 1970 buick
Wildcat, they made a safe and speedy getaway. The only thing that kept Mark's
college experience from being historically recorded as ".. a half decade of
total irresponsibility" (Lillian Paris, 1977) was his next band, Whale, a
locally popular cover/original band of 10 pieces. While in Whale (1974-1990),
the band spent several years traveling the east coast. Along the way, they
opened for such acts as Blood Sweat and Tears and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit
Wheels. Other claims to fame are seeing Brooke Shields in a 7-11 in Princeton,
NJ and screaming "Hey Don!" at Don Rickels in a hotel parking lot in PA. While
suffering through what most people would call a normal existence from
1990-2000, Mark set music aside. He became active again after a Whale Reunion
show in 2001. Before forming Big Package in late 2003, Mark spent some time
with the popular band U-Funk. Presently, while not performing with BP or stuck
at his real job, Mark can be seen with other local favorites Boys Night Out, 9
Steps Down and Red Hot and Blue. He also leads a rehearsal jazz/funk band
called Infants In Disguise.

Robert Sparre /
Scott Leonhard ~ Keys, Vocals
Born in Annapolis, MD, Kenny developed his musical roots by playing Motown, R&B,
Blues, Top 40 and Rock ‘n Roll. In the late 1970s, Kenny relocated to South Florida
(Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami) working the Southern Rock scene. A call from
a friend took Kenny to Nashville, Tennessee. For the next several years, Kenny
toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia as a guitarist and band leader for many national
acts and artists. Kenny has also performed on several TNN television shows as well
as playing for numerous recording sessions. After a tour with the Philadelphia
based Bill Haley's Comets, Kenny relocated to Delaware to pursue songwriting and
performing the Blues and Jazz music that he grew up with.
Scott
can tinkle the keys in a funky way!
Having grown up in Las Vegas in a musical family, Tom’s been surrounded by
music his whole life. After going to his Dad’s Wayne Newton rehearsals, Tom
decided to play the saxophone, because those guys had “more toys surrounding
them than all the other musicians.” His first paying gig was with the Glenn
Miller Revival Band at the age of 15 – the next youngest in the band was over
60! Tom played in all the typical bands in High School, peaking with the
McDonald’s All American High School Marching and Jazz bands. Though Tom did not
study music in college, he has continued to be very musically active both
through college and beyond. Since college, he’s played in bands in Germany,
Cincinnati, Amsterdam, Paris, Las Vegas, and now Delaware! A claim to fame (or
brush with it) was when Tom sat in with Hans Dulfer - father of the popular
saxophonist Candy Dulfer - at the Café Alto in Amsterdam.
Pete Mayforth /
Larry Spencer ~ Tenor Sax
Pete is super cool - previously with Whale and lots of other
bands. Somestimes renowned as the fourth bodily fluid in Blood, Sweat and
Tears.

Mike Gleason ~
Trumpet, Vocals
Pull up to the window into Mike's world, and in no time flat, you'll be leaving
with a sample of his great background vocals ("Welcome to KFC. Would you like to
try....."), a taste of his bitchin' chops (if you happen to be driving thru
while he's sheddin back by the deep fryer....) and a finger lickin' good bucket
of lunch! That's right. Mike does a great job juggling his real world
management position with his musical aspirations. Jazz is his love, but right
now he's deep into an affair with tightly wrapped funk. He's been playing
trumpet for fifteen years and is one of five Packages to have his degree in
music. Mike's upbeat personality and positive approach to everything he does
are comparable only to his superb handling of the lead trumpet position. But by
far, Mike's most outstanding atribute is arriving to every rehearsal with a
free bucket of fried poultry!
Don Brill ~ Bone
Tom Trinter ~ Bari

Kenny Jones ~
Guitar
After writing a mostly original music show to raise money for his high school
yearbook back in 1973, Rob decided to major in music on trumpet. Playing in
numerous horn bands through the 70's, the draw of keyboards and composition
were too tempting, and Rob switched to writing and playing original jazz fusion
in a local band Centrepeace in the early 1980's. Joining bassist Cooke for both
the high school yearbook concert and then Centrepeace after college, it seems
only natural that Rob join Cooke once again in BP over 20 years later. With his
punch of organ and clavinet for those Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder tunes,
Rob provides the rhythm section with a little extra funkification to complete
the package. You can download some of Rob's original music at
www.sparre.ws.

Dennis Michaels ~
Bass, Vocals
Best known for his ability to put a bass through its paces without
pausing for a breath, Michaels has a natural affinity for bass playing... but
where nature left off, dedication and exposure take over. Michaels has been
honing his skills as a bassist for more than twenty years. In a given week, he
has been found anywhere from a posh hotel lobby to a smoky jazz club, at a
state fair backing a country talent competition, and in the studio recording
blues and adult contemporary demos. Adept at improvisation, he has played
progressive originals in clubs and backed a Hebrew choir at a local synagogue,
while his reading skills have enabled him to master even the most challenging
Broadway show books.
There's a lot more to this story though - read more at one of
Dennis's websites below!
